Dear Parents,

      Last week was a very busy week.  We had fun trimming our Christmas tree and visiting the Science Fair.  We read different versions of “The Little Red Hen” and discussed what it means to work together.  We explored calculators and learned how to measure with unifix cubes.  We will continue to write about Special Moments and talk about the value of giving.

Reading:  Focus Text:  “The Giving Tree”

  • Understanding the sequence of a story: (Story Order)
  • Analyzing the Characters of a story
  • Understanding the difference between Real and Make Believe
  • Identifying the number of syllables in words
  • Recognizing High Frequency Words: can, see, you
  • Recognizing Letters and Letter Sounds: Kk
  • Vocabulary Words: apples, tree, giving
  • Understanding how to write Small Moment Stories across pages

Math

  • Counting from 1-100
  • Recognizing numbers 0-20
  • Measuring weight using the pan balance
  • Exploring the concept adding one more
  • Understanding the concept of Probability (certain, likely and unlikely)
  • Math Problem Solving- Number stories

Science

  • Understanding how to make healthy food choices
  • Exploring the Five Food Groups

 

Social Studies

  • Understanding the concept of “wants” and “needs”

 

Homework

Monday: Draw or cut out pictures that begin with Hh

Math - Practice writing numbers 11-15 and drawing pictures to match 

Tuesday: Read your Tree Book to a family member.  Make a list of what trees give to us.

Math - Complete worksheet p. 13

Wednesday: Draw and write about what you think the boy could give to the tree.

Math- Cut out pictures of things that are certain (likely to happen), uncertain (unlikely to happen) and glue them under the correct headings.

Thursday: Practice reading your Kk Book to a family member.  Math -Practice counting to 100 with a family member.

Friday:  Complete a Reader’s Response worksheet

 

For Your Information:

  • Ø Money for the Field Trip to “Winter Wonderland” is due on Wednesday. Let us know if you are willing to chaperone.
  • Ø Please send extra shoes if your child will be wearing boots to school. “Have a great week!”

Welcome back!  We hope you enjoyed your Thanksgiving vacation and that you were able to spend quality time with your families.  We will continue our theme on “Family Ties” as we explore oral and written storytelling, stories about families and activities surrounding the fairy tale “The Little Red Hen”.

Math – Use pennies to measure 3 items at home.

Tuesday: Complete the Little Red Hen activity card.

Math – Practice counting by 5’s and 10’s

Wednesday: Complete the Bread, Bread, Bread Activity card.

Math –Write and illustrate a number story with a family member.

Thursday: Practice the storytelling of the Little Red Hen with a family member.  Math –Practice using a calculator to find numbers.

Friday: Complete a Reader’s Response worksheet

For Your Information:

  • Field Trip to “Winter Wonderland” coming up.  Watch for trip slips and further information.
  • Science Fair – Friday, December 5th
  • Remember to dress your child warmly.  We will try to go out everyday.
  • Make sure your child is dressed in sweats on Gym Days.
